Thomas D. Davis was appointed director of Academic Computing & Network Services in June of 2002. In this position, he is responsible for the campus network infrastructure and central academic computing services. He represents ACNS to off-campus interests including alumni, parents of students, vendors, other universities, and the media. Committed to collaboration, he is actively involved with the Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC) and with various campus units in pursuit of providing high quality IT services to support teaching and research. His extensive technical and administrative experience has brought valuable insight to ACNS. Davis oversees a staff of 110 with an annual operating budget of $24 million.
Born and raised in Mason, MI, Davis received a bachelor’s degree from MSU in computer science with minors in electrical engineering and mathematics. As an undergraduate he worked at ACNS (then known as the MSU Computer Laboratory) as a student systems programmer and subsequently moved into a full-time programming position. Davis later became a project leader in the network software area and, prior to assuming the role of director, served as division manager of technical services overseeing the university’s computer labs, e-mail, course management, and storage systems.
